What the referral discount changes

fomo states that users who sign up with a referral code get a 10% discount on trading fees, bringing the standard rate to 0.45% (fees article; referral article). The published example is the 0.50% rate.

What isn’t spelled out: how the discount interacts with the Solana flat-fee and 2% tiers, the reduced 0.05% tier, or perpetual futures fees. I won’t guess. The quote screen before you confirm a trade is the authority.

Worked examples (simple arithmetic)

These are illustrative calculations from the published 0.50% and 0.45% rates. They are not predictions, and they ignore network fees and price impact.

Trade sizeFee at 0.50%Fee at 0.45%Difference
$500$2.50$2.25$0.25
$1,000$5.00$4.50$0.50
$10,000$50.00$45.00$5.00

Fees apply to each trade, so buying and later selling incurs the fee twice. The point: the discount is real but small. It should never be your reason to trade, or to trade more.

Costs the code does not touch

  • Network fees on every chain except Solana. fomo covers Solana gas, priority fees and token rent; on other networks you pay network fees on top, shown in the quote (source).
  • Contract-level token fees that some tokens build into their own smart contracts, set by the token creator, not fomo.
  • Price impact and slippage. The quote reflects expected value based on current liquidity, and the actual result can differ.
  • Perpetual futures carry their own fee and risks, and aren’t available to U.S. persons (Terms §10).
  • Taxes on your gains, which are your responsibility (Terms §26).
